About Overlay Text

Our Story

Overlay Text was born from a simple observation: creating professional text overlays on images shouldn't require expensive software, design skills, or hours of learning complex tools. The editor is designed to make text effects more approachable for social media, marketing materials, and personal projects.

We noticed that existing solutions were either too complicated (requiring Photoshop expertise), too expensive (subscription fees that add up quickly), or too limited (basic tools that couldn't achieve the professional look we wanted). There had to be a better way.

That's why we built Overlay Text: a browser-based editor for applying text overlays, text-behind-image effects, and knockout text. It combines subject detection with editable typography controls so users can test visual treatments without starting from a blank image-editing workflow.

Overlay Text is designed, built, and maintained by Vikram Hegde, founder and developer, overlay text. Vikram builds Overlay Text, the browser-based text-behind-image and knockout text editor, and writes the tutorials on this blog based on how the editor actually works.

The tutorials on the blog describe the editor as it actually works, are updated when the editor changes, and never rely on statistics we cannot verify. Questions or corrections are welcome through the contact page.
